An office in your pocket: the smartphone

Most  people look for Smartphone’s applications to distract their minds from work and to relax, however, this is a luxury that not everyone can afford. For those who need to stay in touch with their office wherever they go, here are some very interesting tools:

  • Yammer: Imagine a Twitter that only can be read by your workmates. It is useful when it comes to find a way of broadcasting information to a group of people. Yammer provides software for Android and iOS.

  • WebEx: A Cisco unified communications solution that will allow you to organize a meeting at distance. But WebEx is much more than a videoconferencing system, it also lets you share documents, presentations, videosor record the meeting.

  • Lync 2010 Mobile: Microsoft had developed clients to run their new Unified Communication Solution -Microsoft Lync- on cell phones with Windows mobile 7, on iPhones, and other platforms –these other clients are being developed by partner companies-. Microsoft Lync is able to perform all the tasks of a virtual meeting face to face, because not only is able to incorporate video and audio conferencing, it includes both instant messaging and telephony and allows sharing your desktop and more importantly, it permits to teams members located in different places to work in a collaborative way and in real time on files from the most widespread office applications, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Exchange, while they are communicating simultaneously.

Some experts are currently anticipating that Unified Communications technology will disrupt the market for the fix telephony equipment use by enterprises… It would be great to need only one phone… a mobile one!
