As one of its major corporate values, innovation, Starbucks has just launched the online payment for Iphone and Blackberry. The Starbucks M-payment application comes meanwhile the NFC technologies (as Iphone 5) are launched in the mass market.
Through the Smartphone and after recharging the Starbucks account, the customer ca n pay his order. As a procedure, the customer present first his or her QR code to the cashier who scans it, then the fee is deducted.
Up to now, this service has; however, a limited expansion in the market and is available just in the American Starbucks because of the worry of fake codes. Some customers use a print screen of the others’ codes to benefit from the service. Later on, this service is planned to be expanded abroad (ie. Europe), which means after the implementation of the NFC, and on Android so that to ensure the payment security. This is why Starbucks brand has established a partnership with Target (distribution sector). The partnership has the aim to facilitate the expansion of the service through Target commercial sites. Starbucks’ vision is to be present in 11000 sites throughout US.
Starbucks made big news when it became the largest chain store in the country to allow customers to pay at the register with their Smartphone. After an apparently successful trial run in some American Starbucks locations, the Starbucks brand is now planning to take its mobile payment technology across all of its locations.

This is interesting topic as Starbucks adopting this new technology to its business. It’s really great idea to offer this payment channel by mobile phone as it gives buyers convenience, ease, less time consuming, etc. However, as the article mentions risk, if it can protect risks it would be a very good idea of the business and might bring the trend to another businesses.
